it's all part of the plan
I am sherlocked
it's 1.38am promos are in less than 2 days and i just finished watching sherlock s02e01 scandal in belgravia -- possibly the one and only love story in sherlock. oh the feels ;____; i'm not going to lie, i admit that i cried (however absurd that might sound!), especially towards the end when mycroft wanted to fool sherlock into thinking that irene adler was in america when she had been beheaded by terrorists -- for sherlock to have barely known love, and then to lose it so wonderingly and so far away ... the hopeless romantic in me would like to believe that the two were passionately in love (or infatuation, cos being me with zero experience i wouldn't know the difference), in whatever way that characters like sherlock and irene adler could ever passionately love. i like that there is absolutely no power struggle between the sexes in their relationship; despite being someone who dabbled in the sex trade, apparently reducing herself to her sexual identity, irene adler is completely powerful in her own right - sex, to her, is not something that she does for pleasure or to pleasure, but merely an incredibly effective medium for business transactions (you must admit that she is pretty well endowed!). i think making her gay was a really nice touch by moffat as well.

their utter devotion to each other is apparent throughout the episode, coming to a head when tears fall from adler's face after sherlock solved her passcode. at first glance it would seem as though her devotion (i cannot call it love so surely) is not reciprocated, but there are obvious clues littered all over the episode that possibly this is not the case: in the ending scene sherlock clearly cares enough about her to dress up as a terrorist and save her life through great risk to his own, for instance, and his absolute breakdown upon believing her dead, turning more inward and seemingly locked in a mental stupor proves his devotion to her. their relationship, i feel, was designed as unique as their characters.

i think credits go to both the author doyle and the director moffat for keeping such perfect balance between sherlock's cold, calculating and detached nature and his admiration and devotion for the woman irene adler. from what i have read, in the original book she was more a two-dimensional possible love interest than the larger-than-life antagonist-cum-lover she is portrayed as in the show -- kudos to moffat for that! indeed, much thought and deliberation has been put into the development of her character resulting also in a somewhat, suggestive, rather than definite, love triangle between her, sherlock and john. to quote moffat, "it's always definitely a love story", but yet a rather up-to-your-own-interpretation kind -- it can be whatever you imagine it to be, honestly. and that is the beauty of it.

all in all i really have to say that everything was brilliantly directed and shot! it was deeply satisfying and also aesthetically-pleasing - i felt as though i could just take a screenshot at any frame and it would make a tumblr-worthy photo. looking forward to after promos so i can watch more :')

But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me.
